Frequently Asked Glamping Questions
This section of the site is here to help answer some questions you may have about our off-grid woodland glamping holidays.
Q: What is off-grid?
A: Off-grid glamping means that the site is not connected to the national services such as electricity, drains, gas etc. To minimise our carbon footprint the site is self-contained. Guest accommodation has solar powered lighting and our utility blocks (hot running showers and flushing toilets) are self-contained.
Q: What is digital detox?
A: We have purposefully designed the woodland glampsite to allow our guests to relax, spend quality time together and be close to nature here in Somerset. For this reason there is no internet connection. We have books, puzzles, playing cards and board games for guests' use to borrow from reception. We can also provide woodland activity packs for children on request.
Q: Where is Woodland Escape?
A: We are located in the heart of rural Somerset approximately 1 and 3/4 miles from the village of South Barrow. The Directions page of this website provides written directions for both road and rail travel, our postcode for SatNav, a map and a tool that will open Google Maps to our location on your device. We are easily accessible by rail from London Paddington and road, just off the A303. World Heritage sites such as the Roman city of Bath are an easily located for a day trip whilst national attractions such as Haynes Motor Museum and the Fleet Air Arm Museum are right on our doorstep! Our What3Words code is ///hunk.hungry.scrum
Q: How do I book with a voucher?
A: If you have been given one of our gift vouchers the simplest way to book is to contact us directly to tell us you have a voucher and let us know the accommodation and dates you wish to join us. If you have a voucher from a third party re-seller such as Virgin, Red Letter Days or Buy a Gift please visit the specially designed voucher redemption page available in the menu bar.

A: All of our glamping accommodation has its own barbecue and fire pit. To offer the best value guests are either welcome to bring their own charcoal for a barbecue and logs and kindling for fire pits or we can supply these for you. Please note the trees are protected by law, any damage to trees will result in a £100 fine. Fire pits and barbecues must only be used in designated areas.

A: Our wood-fired glamping hot tub is a wonderful way to relax without the interference of modern technology. We can always exchange your freezer blocks for fresh ones each day if you wish from our solar-powered freezer in reception. We can also refreeze guests' own freezer blocks if you have brought some from home.
Q: What should I pack?
A: For outdoor staycations always follow the Scout motto and 'be prepared'. Check the weather forecast in advance for our location, the Somerset area generally and any locations you wish to visit during your stay so you can pack appropriate clothes for the weather. Remember we are in a wood, so appropriate foot wear such as boots or if it's wet; wellingtons, long trousers and shirts/blouses are a good idea. Prepare as you would for a woodland walk, pack your choice of sun protection, insect repellent and sun/rain hats. There is a more extensive list of items to bring on our New to Glamping? page.
Q: What is in the breakfast basket?
A: Our breakfast baskets include personal packets of cereal, tea, coffee, sugar and individual servings of milk.
Q: When is "low season"?
A: Woodland Escape operates from the end of March until the end of September. Low season glamping rates apply to dates outside of school holidays, national holidays, Bank Holiday weekends and other public observances during the months of March, April, May and September. June, July and August are the holiday industry's traditional "high season".
Q: Is all of the accommodation next to each other?
A: Our accommodation is positioned through the wood nestled within the natural clearings among the trees. For this reason some accommodation will be closer together than others. We have laid path ways through the wood to allow easy access to the facilities and across the site. For bookings with multiple accommodations we aim to provide the most neighbouring units where possible.
Q: What happens if it is inclement?
A: Part of the glamping experience is the camping side of cooking outdoors. But don't worry, we are fully equipped for inclement weather. We have a covered cooking area as well as a number of takeaways that will deliver to the site.
Q: I'm pregnant/have a new born or young child, is glamping suitable?
A: Whilst we welcome families, we want all our guests to be comfortable and enjoy their stay, as such it is important guests that are pregnant or have newborn/young children should be aware that camping plays a major part in glamping. You will need to walk to toilets and showers blocks and please remember you are sleeping outside under canvas. As pregnant ladies and those with newborn/young children have a higher chance of requiring medical treatment it is also important to note the nearest hospital before you arrive and travel with a copy of your medical documents.
Q: Does Woodland Escape welcome same-gender couples?
A: As one of the earliest providers of glamorous camping accommodation, we have been providing great service at our sites for everybody long before the modern Equality Act and we always prepare a warm welcome for all of our guests, regardless of age, gender, nationality, religious beliefs or sexual orientation. All guests receive our usual friendly service for their holiday at Woodland Escape. Please feel free to ask if you would like more information about local LGBT events and venues.
Q: What do I need to wear when glamping?
A: Our accommodation is designed to be lovely and snug. Please bear in mind that you are in a rural location and will need to cross grass. As such we strongly recommend being prepared for the British weather and dress accordingly, Wellingtons are always a good choice of footwear. As we have very little light pollution we provide kinetic energy torches inside each accommodation to help you get around at night time, though it is also advisable to bring extra torches for the night time. You can find more information about packing for your trip on our New to Glamping? page.
Q: Can we bring our own gazebo/wind break etc?
A: Due to fire regulations we are required to have as much clear space between accommodations as possible, as such we are unable to allow additional erections on the glamping site.
Q: Which are the least expensive glamping options?
A: We understand how the nation's uncertain climate is affecting families who wish to keep to a budget for their glamping break, so to help families continue enjoying staycations with style, in 2018 we have introduced the Saver package. The new Saver package provides a cheap glamping option for experienced campers or those who simply wish to dip their toe for a short off-grid break, with prices for Bell tents from £53.50 per night for two nights or more low season midweek, and from £68.50 per night for two nights or more during high season midweek. Our Classic packages are also modestly priced with Bell tents from £66 per night low season midweek and from £81 per night during the high season midweek.
Q: Can we decorate our tent?
A: Please ask about decorations when booking. We can provide cloth bunting and decorate your unit ready for your arrival on request. As bunting will stain canvas when the air is damp at night we ask that no bunting be placed on the outsides of the accommodation. If you have other decorations please seek advice from our site team as to the most appropriate place to put them before putting decorations up.
Q: Can we bring our own electric kettle, hair-dryer, hair straighteners, coffee machine?
A: Woodland Escape is an off-grid glamping site. The accommodation all has solar powered lighting. All our accommodation includes a whistle kettle for use on the gas stove.
Q: Can I order bedding?
A: We pride ourselves on providing cost-effective luxury glamping holidays in Somerset. For this reason guests have a choice on bedding. If guests are on a tight budget they are welcome to bring their own bedding and bed linen. Alternatively we can supply this for you. Bedding packs include an under sheet, duvet and duvet cover, pillows and pillow cover. There is a small per stay charge to cover the cost of laundry and dry cleaning. Single bedding is £13.50 per stay, double bedding is £18.50 per stay. Our Deluxe glamping packages come with all bedding, towels & more extras included.
Q: Can I order glamping with a private hot tub?
A: Exclusive hot tub hire is available with any of our accommodation here in Somerset and comes complete with towels, gowns and flip-flops to use during your stay for your convenience, plus a bag of logs & kindling to fuel the fire. As the hot tub takes time to warm up, please advise us in advance the days and times you would like to use the hot tub, and we will prepare it ready for you so all you have to do is get in and relax. In order to conserve our planet's resources, our wood-fired glamping hot tub is available to hire for a minimum of 2 days. More information can be found on our hot tub page.
